Fitbit is slowly but surely making it’s way into the smartwatch business and they are coming out swinging! The device is being called Fitbit’s first “true” smartwatch. Fitbit had two previous smartwatch offerings ‘Blaze’ and ‘Surge,’ but the Fitbit Ionic smartwatch is predicted to outperform both by a long shot. Fitbit is calling it “the watch that you’ve been waiting for.” The display is presented through a high resolution touch screen, scratch-proof screen, with amplified brightness and increased pixels. The aluminum framework is strong but considerably light enough to wear freely.

The Ionic has three sleek colorways — silver gray with a blue gray band, smoke gray with a charcoal band, and burnt orange with a slate blue band. The company is also launching two other bands which easily snap onto the watch. For a classier or more professional look, a brown leather band is being launched as well. The variety of colors available are already showing signs of a well-rounded device.

Fitbit specializes in fitness driven devices but the Ionic smartwatch is personalizing fitness in a brand-new way. One of the most astounding features that the Ionic boasts is the ability to determine blood oxygen levels. The watch has a heart rate sensor and an Sp02 sensor which previous devices were lacking. These features are are key for fitness junkies who want to keep close tabs on day to day health improvements. Fitbit predicts that in the near future the watch will be intuitive enough to track other health issues such as sleep apnea.

Keeping in line with your fitness needs the watch provides built-in GPS, a personal trainer, counts calories, steps taken, and customizes workouts. For gym enthusiasts the device is said to have enough storage space to accommodate more than 300 songs. In addition, you will be able to play music from sites such as Pandora whether you are online or offline. This is perfect for people who do not want to bring their phones while they workout! Don’t worry about missing out on notifications because you can sync your watch and phone to make sure you don’t miss a call, text, or email.

It can be a pain when you are going for a swim or shower and forget to remove your watch or other jewelry beforehand. The Fitbit Ionic smartwatch is water-resistant up to 50 meters! You can move around freely without the hassle of trying to protect your watch from getting wet. Not only is the Ionic convenient in many ways, it’s durable. The battery can last more than four whole days without charging it a single time. And up to 10 hours while using GPS. This fact has been confirmed by numerous tech reviewers.

Fitbit’s previous native app, FitStar will now be called Fitbit Coach. Fitbit Coach will provide a guided health program that is growing at an exponential rate within the company. Fitbit Coach can be used anytime, anywhere and personalizes your workout experience like no other! The application gives you access to unlimited video workouts as well as audio coaching. You can give feedback at the end of your workout and track every step of your progress. Outlining your goals will allow ‘Fitbit Coach’ to progress automatically for each session.

Staying within the realm of the financial world going completely paperless, the Fitbit Ionic smartwatch also provides Fitbit Pay. This service will be accepted at any retailer that supports Mastercard, Visa, and Amex payments. The contactless payment ability allows you to pull up an image of your card on the watch and simply tap the watch against the payment terminal. This will complete the transaction without you having to pull out your wallet. In addition to this application, Ionic comes with four default applications — Starbucks, Pandora, Strava, and Accuweather.

The Fitbit Ionic smartwatch retails at $299.95 and will be released this October but is available for pre-sale now. This price will make it the most expensive Fitbit device and higher-priced than the Apple Watch Series 1. Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Best Buy will all have the device available for retail.
