Why Amazon Headquarters Should Choose Denver

The hunt is on! Denver is now amongst 20 cities being considered for Amazon’s second headquarters site. The former gold mining town looks to the future of their city in hopes to boost their ever growing economy with the new Amazon Headquarters. Amazon expects to invest more than $5 billion to build the 8-million-square-foot facility and promises to create as many as 50,000 high-paying jobs over the next 15 years. Before any decisions are made, the company had created specific requirements to be met for each city. Some of the requirements include a metropolitan area with over a million people, a time distance of 45 minutes from an international airport, direct access to public transportation, and to be able to expand 8 million square feet in the next decade.

Since the start of the new year, Amazon officials have made their rounds to some of the cities. A recent visit to Denver has made quite the impression on officials for the new Amazon Headquarters and Denver citizens alike. “We provided them with a comprehensive community tour as well as an opportunity to sit down and have a defined conversation about the project,” Sam Bailey, Vice President of Economic Development for the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp., “We did have some opportunities for them to connect with peer companies and to hear more about their experiences of growing a business here.”

The “Mile High City” ranks high in the economy, which helps local business owners like Bryan Leach, the founder and CEO of consumer-shopping app Ibotta, bring more business to the city. “I feel it’s extremely important for the Front Range to have Amazon here. Companies like Ibotta are extremely dependent on attracting future talent and we view Amazon as a net benefit that will help import talent,” said Leach, who also met with Amazon officials.

The community of Denver are now able to broadcast their opinions on Amazon. While state officials deal with the financial benefits, agencies and businesses within Denver are now able to give insight on their city as well. This is why Amazon HQ2 should choose Denver.
