Come 2025, we’ll be seeing virtual reality (VR) balloon to a massive $21 billion market. It isn’t as settled yet as it should be, but thanks to the swarm of technology companies, this could be happening soon. And while it’s still a bit early to see a vast expansion, many investors are now scrambling for the opportunity to earn from it.

These investors are grabbing shares of companies leaning towards virtual reality. They already see the benefits and growth it will bring them once VR shoots to stardom.

Apple and Nvidia: the virtual reality stocks to invest in

If you need to invest in only two virtual reality stocks today, let them be Apple (AAPL 3.82%) and Nvidia (NVDA 1.98%). Let’s look at the reasons for this.

Apple

To begin with, Apple’s new AR/VR headset is slated to launch in less than a year. The tech giant’s board members have already seen it, and excitement is brewing for its release. As of now, Apple has no VR device on the market yet, so this is something its fans would be anticipating with bated breath.

Of course, we all know that Apple is a master at blending software beautifully with hardware. Its closest competitors do not even come close to this talent. Doing this AR/VR (augmented/virtual) gig would be an excellent opportunity for them, thus, an enormous opportunity for investors with its VR stocks.

Last month, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook hinted at the company’s vast potential to get into the VR market. To quote, “I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunities we’ve seen in this space.” He added that we should stay tuned to see what they will have to offer.

An inadvertent reveal about Apple’s open source code has given us a peek at what seems to be its new project. They are working on what the company calls realityOS, most probably an operating system for AR and VR.

Predictions point to a new and financially rewarding revenue segment for the tech company. Analysts estimate that Apple will generate $18 billion in sales when it marks its fifth year in the market.

Aside from the sales of devices, Apple is also expected to earn big from selling a new set of services for these gadgets. iPhone owners can attest to this as this is what the company has already been doing.

Nvidia

This is something of a no-brainer. Nvidia has the technology that makes VR possible, making it one of the best ways to tap into the growing potential of the artificial environment. In short, Nvidia is essential in the future of VR hardware.

In addition, some of the best gaming processors you can find on the market are from Nvidia. Thanks to its outstanding graphics processing units (GPUs), it has successfully enabled gamers to immerse themselves in the virtual world.

Furthermore, Nvidia is also an integral part of high-powered data center processing. These characteristics of the tech company make it fundamental in the VR market. GPUs will power hardware to be used for VR and its applications and services, too. Nvidia will stand to gain so much by selling more GPUs in the VR market.

The Outlook

Although it may take a while for the VR market to take off totally, investors and fanatics have nothing to do but patiently wait. Many tech companies are now helping build the market, but it would still need more time. For now, if you want to know which virtual reality stocks to invest in, take note of Apple and Nvidia.
