Social recruiting is a great way to invite new hires to your company. By leveraging your social media channels, you can attract the best talent. Generally, a keyword-optimized job description on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and even TikTok helps candidates perform quick searches to find jobs that match their skills. But, regardless of how job vacancies are posted, companies still find it hard to hire the right employees

For instance, in Cincinnati, Ohio, it hasn’t been easy to find new employees, especially for small businesses. Fortunately, small firms are becoming more creative. They recruit employees with TikTok nowadays. The Mac Shack is a Cincinnati restaurant that found social media success.

Key points:

  • Mac Shack, a mac + cheese bar near the University of Cincinnati’s Campus, used TikTok to encourage more people to apply.
  • Posting an application on their website wasn’t that effective anymore. So, they have to be creative.
  • The social media platform also gets its perfect target audience – college students.
  • The restaurant is successful on TikTok, thanks to its fun and step-by-step videos.

Who’s Behind Mac Shack Videos?

Behind every Mac Shack’s TikTok video is someone calling all the shots. That’s Maureen Murray. She helped the restaurant gain over 14,000 followers on TikTok. Ms. Murray is currently the marketing manager for the Keystone group of restaurants where Mac Shack belongs.

According to Murray, keeping things short and going step-by-step has been essential for them. By cutting things down into short clips and recreating things that people can either try at home or visit them and order food.

But for local restaurants like the Mac Shack, it’s been challenging to find employees to keep the business running. Posting online for a job advertisement has slowed down their processes. This paved the way for using the social media platform to reach out to potential employees.

“We noticed a lot of engagement from UC students and residents. Then we started getting comments like, “are you guys hiring? what does being on your team look like?'” Murray shared.

In short, building some videos helps the restaurant establish a brand and popularize mac and cheese-making videos.

Jared Cautz, an employee of Mac Shack since January 2022, said it’s a clever way to recruit employees with TikTok. Being on the University of Cincinnati’s campus helped the restaurant instantly become famous among students.

The Benefits of TikTok Bandwagon

“Everyone is on TikTok nowadays, and that’s a great way, especially for this age group,” Cautz said to Spectrum News

While Murray works hard to think of ways to showcase a fun working environment, she said having fun with it is the best advice she can give.

“Trying out something new is quite scary. But, when you can do it to look fun, that’s one way of showing the fun side of the job”, Murray quipped. The easy, step-by-step mac and cheese videos show the viewers how fun it is to work at Mac Shack. Also, it’s been a fantastic way to promote the simplicity and creativity of the brand.
