Rare Landlord Spotted: The Homeowner Each Struggling Student Needs

Everyone who experiences living far away from home knows the struggles of a student. Especially being sick and having no one around to take care of you. However, Katerina managed to procure an apartment with a landlord that’s too good to be true.

Where it All Started

Katerina Callaghan, a 20-year-old student from Falmouth University, shared a screengrab of a conversation with her landlord online. She posted the message to HumansBeingBros, a Reddit page dedicated to real-life stories of good deeds by the public members.

In the screengrab, the landlord told the student that he would reduce the rent for February by 50%, given the current circumstances. He added by saying that he hopes the news puts a smile on their faces today.

The conversation proceeded with Katerina replying that a smile is pretty much needed as she’s been feeling ill for a couple of days. As if an automated response from his caring nature, the landlord asked if there’s anything the student needs.

Katerina explains that the landlord had been worrying about her health as she dealt with chronic pain. So this level of concern is normal for her. The student replied to the landlord asking for medicine as she’s too weak to get something for herself in the pharmacy.

Like the good landlord that he is, he gladly provided Paracetamol for the ill student. He made sure not to disturb her, slipping the medicine through the letterbox instead. Katerina said that the painkillers were a great help as she’s been ill for a few days. She adds that it was nice to get some relief.

According to Katerina, she and her roommate have lived in the flat since August last year. She added that it is within their landlord’s nature to check in on the tenants. He even brought cupcakes to her group on the first day of their meeting! Anyone who gives out food is indeed a good person.

A halved rent announcement and medicine delivery? That sounds like a great landlord to have. Some of us might doubt the Reddit post as it sounds too good to be true, but let’s not be that person.

The Public’s Reaction

The post attracted hundreds of comments with more than 13 000 upvotes! Countless users praised the landlord for his actions. Katerina said that the feedback was mostly supporting and full of love for her landlord.

Furthermore, some users shared their experiences with terrible landlords. After reading a couple of stories, the student was more thankful for the constant kindness she received. Some comments even said that their landlord’s situation got so bad that they need to take the issue to court.

One comment from a tenant attorney user expressed that the student needs to realize she has a unicorn for a landlord. This feedback only shows that such landlords that were genuinely kind and full of care are hard to come by. The comment section of bad landlord experiences only further proves this fact.

Another user commented that their landlord is not bad but expressed that Katerina is lucky to “hit the landlord jackpot.” Katerina replied to the user that her landlord has fatherly instincts and admits that she is fortunate.

A genuinely nice landlord is undoubtedly hard to come by. However, one comment from a user reasoned that good landlords get taken advantage of. The user who turns out to be a landlord explains that it’s tough to handle tenants. This user further explained that a good tenant is also extremely rare. And being a “good” landlord will only end with nonstop favors.

That kind of sentiment is understandable. A “great” tenant and landlord relationship will only be possible if both parties are friendly. We sure do hope that some tenants won’t overuse the kindness of Katerina’s landlord.

As an Endnote

The majority of the world will agree that Katerina Callaghan and her flatmate are lucky to have such a caring landlord. Those who live alone can agree that being sick with no medication available is hard. Especially if you’re too ill to get up or all your loved ones are too far away to come over.
