Pantone “Very Peri” Is Color Of The Year 2022

We have a brand new color, folks! In anticipation of the new year and all its glory, Pantone has announced its next Color of the Year – Pantone 17-3938, or Very Peri. 

Ain’t it pretty? 

Very Peri, symbolizing growth and change, falls under the blue-toned family despite it looking more like periwinkle or lilac. 

Executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, explains the Pantone Very Peri choice:

“As we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of Pantore 17-3938 ‘Very Peri’ brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family, encompassing the qualities of the blues. 

“Yet at the same time with its violet red undertone, Pantora 17-3938 ‘Very Peri’ displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions.” 

Why Very Peri?

Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, goes into the relevance of Color of the Year. 

“The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our own global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer.

“Creating a new color for the first time in the history of our Pantone Color of the Year educational color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. 

“As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way o express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red-violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us.”

Normally, Pantone reaches into its color catalog for its Color of the Year. 2021 was both Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, a gray and yellow, respectively. This year is the first time Pantone has manufactured a new color. 

You didn’t think you’d end 2021 with a brand new color, did you? Pretty neat, huh.
