In September 2021, the luxury car manufacturer Mercedes AMG announced that Will.I.am was their new ambassador. It appears that the automobile manufacturer is releasing a new car under the E Performance series with Will.I.Am. Read more about the new car launching on May 5 here.
Is the New E Performance Car A Bespoke Will.I.Am Car?
Mercedes has not yet disclosed their new E Performance car, but Motor1 predicts that the new concept car could be one of these four things:
- A bespoke car
- The new AMG GT Coupe
- One inspired by the E Coupe series
- AMG GT Four-Door Coupe
What most fans, like Motor1, know so far is that the car is a coupe. Aside from that, it has a long hood and shorter rear. It’s similar to the S-Class Coupe. But the S-Coupe car is no longer in production, and it won’t have an electric powertrain. Another thing for certain is that the front of the car is similar to the G63. Motor1’s predictions may suggest that different design or styling elements are added to one whole car, making it a very different car from most Mercedes vehicles.
The rapper said that the custom car would help fund engineering programs for inner-city schools on his official website. It’s to prepare the younger generation for a technological tomorrow.
Many car fans suggest that it’s likely the custom car would be auctioned off. Speaking of custom cars, many fans are reminded of the custom car designed by the late Virgil Abloh, which was released on April 5, 2022. The car manufacturer called this custom car, “The Ultimate Legacy Car”.
The new Mercedes-Benz car was revealed on May 5, 2022, called the Will.I.AMG.
Background on the Will.I.Am Brand Ambassadorship
When Will.I.Am was announced as the new ambassador of Mercedes, the company also revealed a new car in their E Performance series in 2021. It was the GT 63 S E Performance. In the video for the new car launch and campaign, Will.I.Am even wrote the song.
Mercedes-Benz chose him as their new brand ambassador for his values regarding going one step further, innovating, and pushing boundaries, as Philipp Scheimer shared.
Seven-time Formula 1 champion Sir Lewis Hamilton appears in the campaign. After all, the GT 63 S E Performance models the technologies in the car from Formula 1. The car manufacturer also added that his appearance symbolizes the performance hybrid technology that the new car model has. To note, Formula 1 has used hybrid engines since 2014, which Mercedes-Benz gets inspiration from for their new car.

Virgil Abloh Project MAYBACH
When renowned fashion designer Virgil Abloh died on November 28, 2021, the car manufacturer paid tribute to him through Project Maybach. The Rubell Museum hosted a two-day public viewing of Project MAYBACH from December 1 to 2, 2021. The car is reminiscent of the designs that Virgil Abloh has made.
And on April 5, 2022, Mercedes-Benz released a bespoke S-Class car, four months after the public viewing of Project MAYBACH in the Rubell Museum. Two-tone seems to be the theme of the Project MAYBACH car. The collaboration also launched a capsule collection designed by Abloh and released by Off-White. The collection is available in market-exclusive Off-White, Maybach Icons of Luxury, and Farfetch stores.
Mercedes-Benz said that the car was completed before Abloh’s passing.
