Hyundai Unveiled Its Ioniq 6 Electric Vehicle

Hyundai leads the automotive industry in creating the most partnerships with technology providers and suppliers. It successfully transitioned from budget-oriented gas-engine cars to premium electric vehicles (EVs). And recently, the company revealed the Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV design.

What’s Inside the Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV?

The upcoming electric vehicle was inspired by the Prophecy concept EV that the company introduced in 2020.

  • Hyundai retains Prophecy’s futuristic elements without looking like a sci-fi movie prop. Its aerodynamic profile and clean lines are still there.
  • The vehicle will feature an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.21 compared with most modern cars with an average drag coefficient of 0.25 or 0.3. That’s because of its low nose and active air flaps. It also has an elliptical wing-inspired spoiler and little boat-tail structure to make it more aerodynamic.
  • The EV has a cocoon-shaped interior trimmed in sustainable materials, like eco-process leather or recycled PET fabric for its seats.
  • The company’s modular platform for electric vehicles allowed its designers to maximize the car’s dimensions, giving it a flat floor for more legroom and space.
  • Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV has a modular touchscreen dashboard, a 12-inch touchscreen display, and a 12-inch digital cluster for its entertainment and navigation system.

However, the South Korean automotive manufacturer has yet to announce the complete specs of the EV. To give you a glimpse, the Ioniq 5 has a 72.6-kWh battery that can deliver up to 300 miles of range. It also boasts 320 horsepower, 446 pound-feet of torque, and the capability to go from 0 to 60 MPH in under 5 seconds.

During its world premiere in July, Hyundai will reveal the Ioniq 6’s full specifications and features.

Tesla Model 3 vs  Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV

Hyundai aims to compete with the Tesla Model 3 with  this upcoming EV sedan model.

This four-door will fit into the company’s Ioniq line-up of electric vehicles and will likely share components with the taller and boxier Ioniq 5. This means a single-and dual-motor configuration with various battery-pack options, probably providing up to 300 miles of range. Hyundai’s dramatic Prophecy concept inspires its styling. The Ioniq 6 looks futuristic, stylish, and quick while offering a more luxurious interior and additional tech features than Hyundai’s gas-powered Sonata and Elantra sedans.

The production version has more proper dimensions than the odd-shaped model. But, the camouflage in the headlights and taillights still appear pretty futuristic. The rounded greenhouse and smooth body sides make for a significantly less angular and chiseled appearance than the 80s-looking Ioniq 5. At the same time, the short front overhang and attractive wheel design create an athletic feel.

Consumers and car enthusiasts can expect the Ioniq 6 to use a similar E-GMP platform as the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. This means it should offer the same powertrain specs. The previous Ioniq 5 comes in single- and dual-motor versions with two different battery pack sizes providing between 220 miles and 303 miles of EPA-rated range.

Spy photographers assume the EV will likely feature a five-seater with a rear bench seat. And it seems to sport a conventional trunk instead of a hatchback.

Hyundai has previously confirmed it will conduct the official launching for the Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV within the year, though it might not go on sale in the U.S. until 2023. Expect a starting price of around $42,000.
