How To Navigate Internal Communication Like A Pro

on

Internal communication in an office is one of the most underrated and integral components of running and managing a company. Without proper communication, things can fall apart. Establishing and managing internal communication may seem self-explanatory. But the truth is that it’s very complicated.

Here’s how to master your internal communication for your company.

Office vs. Remote vs. Hybrid

What model are you going to choose? An office setting is traditional and familiar. It’s much easier to communicate face-to-face. COVID forced us to experience remote working, and many of us are fans. A hybrid model is a sexy option today but undoubtedly varies from company to company.

Once you decide on a model (and it could take a while) you’ve completed the first step in mastering your internal communication

Office Culture

What’s your office like? Is it formal or relaxed? Have you taken part in bonding exercises? The culture of your company will inform how you communicate. If you provide your employees with the tools they need to bond, the office culture will figure itself out.

Choose the Right Platform

Some companies or industries prefer email, others prefer Slack. There’s a wealth of communication options out there. Play with them and see what works best.

Plan for the Future

If your company is growing then your internal communication will evolve. What worked for a startup company of four won’t necessarily work for a company headquarters of fifteen and certainly not for a large company of 1500. As you grow, the way you’ll communicate with one another will change. Be ready for it.

Set An Example

Be the change you want to see in the world. Or rather, be the employee you want and need your employees to be. The last thing you want is resentment to build when your employees spot you doing something contrary to your instructions.

Do as I say, not as I do,” is lame and people hate it.

Collect Feedback

You won’t know if your efforts are working unless you ask your employees. You can accomplish this with an office survey, team meeting, or casual one-on-one conversations. Whatever the method, make sure you understand the team’s feelings.

Communication is key. The strongest companies in the world have nailed their communication methods. If you can master it, the rest is gravy.
