MatrixSpace: A Startup Enhancing Human and AI Connections

on

Artificial intelligence has become part of our lives. However, many of us fear a possible artificial intelligence or robot takeover and that they will control our lives, like in sci-fi movies. However, one startup wants to put humans at the forefront of the growing presence of artificial intelligence and robots. MatrixSpace aims to help humans be in control of artificial intelligence and robots and not the other way around. Learn more about the Northeastern startup here.

What Does MatrixSpace Do?

MatrixSpace has five different services for consumers and enterprises, and these are:

  • AI Sensing
  • Autonomy
  • Construction & Utilities
  • Safety & Security
  • Defense Solutions

Let’s take a look at each one.

AI Sensing

MatrixSpace has three different ways their AI Sensing feature works.

The first is called Detect – using DopplerSpace.

  • AI deep learning (using Optical and Radar)
  • They have radar for drones
  • They have software for 3rd party tech components, such as Optical, Lidar, IR, Thermal
  • Tracking and classification even in several weather conditions, such as fog and smoky weather

The second is Decide.

  • Operators would be notified of any hazard or threat and acquire data from vehicles or people
  • Sets up more than 1km perimeter
  • Uses software that can be integrated into technology
  • Users can disseminate data or info to groups or other machines

The startup also developed a software called ShannonSpace, which is Respond. This sophisticated software will help citizens during disasters like tornadoes or hurricanes. Plus, it could also detect structures that were affected by those disasters. Not to mention, ShannonSpace can also identify people who may have concealed weapons in places such as schools, stadiums, and public spaces.

Autonomy

They provide and sell autonomous systems and software to industries below. Plus, they can iterate and test. If your business wants to use this feature, MatrixSpace will talk to you about what you need. Then, the startup will choose the appropriate skills. After that, they test drones and produce them.

On the other hand, they also create hardware that uses their AI, RF Networking Tech, and Radar to collect data and distribute intelligence. They use drones, computing, and secure communications (land, air, and space) to do this.

Construction & Utilities

One particular field can find benefits from using the MatrixSpace AI or drones. The construction industry can use its drones to map out user-defined areas and identify safety issues. They use the following to aid workers regarding metadata structures:

  • Optical
  • Thermal
  • Multispectral
  • Radar
  • Lidar
  • EM
  • IR

Safety & Security

In cases of emergency, their startup can help you find the emergency. They will dispatch drones across the city to detect the area where there’s a need for assistance. Their AI works hand-in-hand with the technology and fixed security systems to understand the situation better.

Defense Solutions

MatrixSpace has drones that will help defense organizations survey terrains, detect objects, and sense motion and RF transmissions. Plus, their AI will help these organizations find safer routes to travel, scan an area, identify dangers, and drop supplies.

Interview with Northeastern

Jose Martinez Lorenzo and Greg Waters were interviewed by Northeastern regarding the spin-out startup. They discussed the features of their products and services in the interview. Plus, the startup is also planning on developing another product, and it’s for radar technology. Waters, Northeastern alum and MatrixSpace co-founder, says they plan to create a “highest preference lowest cost radar”.

Humanics

The core of MatrixSpace is based on the Humanics concept by Joseph E. Aoun, the president of Northeastern. It’s the idea where humans are thinking about a robot-filled feature with these literacies in mind: human, data, and technology. These literacies serve as a model that will seamlessly integrate with AI and be used in workplaces or schools.
