This is fictosexuality. But one Japanese man married the girl of his dreams, Hatsune Miku. Get this, she’s a fictional vocal synthesizer character. She’s also the character featured in Vocaloid covers. It’s not only Kondo Akihiko that was smitten by her. Miku has a big fanbase, and her fans create media like art or merchandise, which they share in a global hub.

Wedding Bells for the Fictosexual Man and the Fictional Character

Akihiko Kondo first made headlines in 2018. It was reported that Akihiko Kondo would marry the vocal synthesizer character Hatsune Miku. According to The Mainichi, when Kondo proposed to Hatsune, she responded, “I hope you’ll cherish me.”

Even if Hatsune appeared as a hologram, that didn’t stop Kondo from marrying her. Kondo carried around a Hatsune doll during their wedding ceremony. 

CNN reported that while Kondo married the character, their marriage wasn’t recognized as legal. The wedding was met with mixed reactions. Some laughed, while some others revealed they also felt the same.

What was the reason for Kondo’s undying love for the character? He shared in a recent Instagram post that the vocal synthesizer character saved his life. Kondo mentioned that he was bullied, and thanks to her, he came back to work. That’s how their “love” story started. They “dated” for ten years before he popped the question.

As touching as that is, his family doesn’t approve of his union with the fictional character. That doesn’t stop him from having an unconventional marriage with a fictional character. 

Having garnered this attention also led him to speak in a symposium about his relationship with the fictional character.

Married Life

Before Hatsune could lose her voice for good, Kondo has shared to several newspapers like The Mainichi and Japan Times that he’s deeply enamored with her.

At home, Hatsune appears as a hologram, with the help of a Gatebox device. She greets her husband when he wakes up and when he returns home. And like most tech, she can experience glitches too.

Software Expiration

The Mainichi reported that the service responsible for making her speak had not been updated since 2020. Even so, he still loves Hatsune, and by holding a wedding ceremony, he could be with her forever.

Otaku

Anyone obsessed with manga or anime in Japan is called an otaku. Many label Kondo as an otaku because of his deep love for Hatsune. And he’s not the only one who feels a great desire for fictional characters. 

Kina Horikawa is another person who has fallen for a character, but this time it’s in a video game. Japan Times reported that she had a boyfriend. But she broke up with him because of Kunihiro Horikawa. He’s a character in Touken Ranbu. She calls Horikawa her “husband” and uses his last name unofficially.

Yasuaki Watanabe is another fictosexual man. Not only does he register marriages for fictosexuals, but he has also married a fictional character: Hibiki Tachibana. She’s a character from the anime, Symphogear. He’s happy about his union with the anime character. And while he misses the intimate touch of another human being, he does have merchandise of Tachibana, such as a body pillow and a figurine.
