Another Round Of Better.com Layoffs

If you want to fast-track qualification for unemployment benefits, apply for a job at Better.com. The company seems to love firing its employees en masse. And thus begins another round of Better.com layoffs.

CFO Kevin Ryan said in a statement:

We must take the difficult step of streamlining our operations further and reducing our workforce in both the U.S. and India in a substantial way.”

Better.com layoffs will be around 4000 employees. That’s nearly 50% of their 9000-person workforce. F**king yikes, man.

Affected employees will be notified of their employment status starting today, March 9. They will receive 60 to 80 days of severance and three months of COBRA health care coverage.

But some employees got a tip-off when they saw severance pay in their payroll. Oops.

The company said in a statement:

This was certainly not the form of notification that we intended and stemmed from an effort to ensure that impacted employees received severance payments as quickly as possible.”

What is going on at Better.com?

This Guy. Friggin CEO of the Year Over Here.

This isn’t the first time you’ve heard of Better.com layoffs in the news. The New York-based company got a lot of bad press a few months back when their CEO, Vishal Garg, laid off 900 employees over Zoom. This incident led to a mass resignation by upper management.

Garg’s lack of empathy and reported verbal abuse has tanked Better.com’s reputation. And hemorrhaging employees can’t be helpful.

If we were on the board of directors, we’d be having a real serious chat about Mr. Garg’s future with the company.

Better.com – Work for us and we’ll have you fired in no time.
