Los Angeles is that much closer to becoming the home of Amazon’s headquarters. From 238 cities across North America to now 20 cities across the nation, LA, is in great company. “Getting from 238 to 20 was very tough – all the proposals showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity,” said Holly Sullivan, Amazon Public Policy. “Through this process we learned about many new communities across North America that we will consider as locations for future infrastructure investment and job creation.”

Although LA has placed last in the affordability category, the city offers top-ranked schools like the University of Southern California and the University of California, which would offer an educated workforce. “The Golden State is home to the best universities and research institutions in the world, a uniquely qualified and talented workforce and the most dynamic combination of innovation and investment on the planet,”Governor Jerry Brown said in a pitch letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. “ … Put simply: there is no better place for a business like yours to continue to grow.” The city also ranks high when considering total population and median age, according to a new demographic survey from Transwestern.

It has also been said that Governor Brown’s office will also institute the California Competes Tax Credit program for the retail giant, should they chose Los Angeles for their headquarters. Amazon HQ2 would be offered a whopping $300 million tax break under the tax credit program. Other incentives the city is dangling include local property tax abatement for up to 15 years, a zero-emission shuttle bus to transport employees around campus, and access to at least six other tax credit programs.“When any company is planning to invest $5 billion and create up to 50,000 jobs, they are not only looking at land and amenities. They are looking for a vibrant culture with eclectic talent to invest in and Los Angeles is just the place,” said Councilman Blumenfield on behalf of the future of Amazon and the city of Los Angeles.

The community of Los Angeles are now able to broadcast their opinions on Amazon. While state officials deal with the financial benefits, agencies and businesses within Indianapolis are now able to give insight on their city as well. This is why Amazon’s Headquarters should choose Los Angeles.
