5 Exciting Things From CES 2022

CES 2022 gave us another view into the future. They didn’t just show us the next exciting steps in technology. We got a glimpse into the kind of world we’ll be living in.

For one thing, CES 2022 was one of the largest in-person events since COVID-19 first disrupted our lives two years ago. What we’ll be seeing in the next few years is not a return to normal but an adjustment to hybrid living – that is we’ll both be in-person and online more than ever. CES 2022 gave us a unique glimpse into that future.

By all accounts, CES 2022 handled COVID-19 protocols well.

We also saw the auto industry on a larger display than it has ever been on at CES. Electric and autonomous vehicles made a splashy appearance this year and have a bright future on the larger market.

Here are some of the most exciting things from CES 2022.

Ameca Humanoid Robot

If you spent a lot of time on the internet (let’s face it, you do), then you’ve probably seen the frighteningly realistic humanoid robot Ameca. Its upsettingly life-like facial expressions went viral late last year.

Morgan Roe from the British-based Engineered Arts described the process of creating a life-like humanoid robot and its limits.

We’ve designed Ameca to be as human-like as possible in movement. Humans are so complex, so making a robot exactly like a human is almost impossible.

“But if we did that, then you wouldn’t be scared of it because you would just assume it was human.

“It doesn’t quite move like a human, it doesn’t quite express itself or emote or talk like a human. That’s the uncanny valley, that’s the scary bit.

We’re one huge step closer to a real-life Terminator. That’s both horrifying and totally badass.

Laptops and TVs Are Sexier Than Ever

TVs have become huge. Like, really huge. TCL unveiled its largest TV ever with the 98-inch Roku-powered OLED. LG also released its largest OLED TV ever. And Samsung released The Freestyle TV projector with 100-inches picture, 360-degree sound, and $900.

In laptops, Dell released the XPS 13 Plus, HP showed off their ultralight Elite Dragonfly, and Lenovo stood out with their ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 dual-display laptop.

Not to mention the Asus Zenbrook 17 Fold. I’m not sure why anyone would want to fold their pc screen but it sure looks cool.

5G Is The Future

5G dominated CES (and our hearts) this year. The TCL 30 V 5G and the TCL XE 5G made their debut and will be available for purchase in February. Verizon made a very splashy announcement. Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S21 Fan Edition. Basically, our entire wireless experiences are going to change with 5G.

Smart Glasses May Not Be So Clunky

Okay, so they still look pretty clunky. But less clunky than ever before! TCL unveiled its vision for AR smart glasses and its NXTWear Air. Sony showed off the PlayStation VR 2. There are $900 SteamVR goggles.

There is even a prototype for smart contact lenses by Mojo Vision. Like, what?!

Electric Vehicles Will Dominate

CES 2022 ended up being the most exciting auto show in years. Electric and autonomous vehicles stole the show, particularly Chevrolet. The Chevy Silverado EV made a big debut. The electric Equinox makes EVs affordable.

Autonomous vehicles like Cadillac Celestiq made a splash. Basically, we got a glimpse into an auto world that looks very different.

All things considered, pretty sweet CES 2022.
