UPDATE: The 17th and Chestnut shooting suspect is currently in custody. The charging process has not been completed and no name has been released yet.

At about 1:50pm on February 17th, a dispute over parking led to a shooting that has one man in critical condition and another at large. The 17th and Chestnut shooting was in broad daylight with plenty of witnesses.

A delivery driver pulled up to the 1700 block and double-parked. Another man, blocked in by the delivery driver, started an argument that quickly escalated to a fistfight. The delivery driver knocked the other man down after a few quick punches.

That’s when the downed man quickly pulled a gun and shot the delivery driver three times: once in the back, once in the neck, and once in the chin.

The delivery driver attempted to drive away but quickly stopped. A good Samaritan drove him to Thomas Jefferson hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The suspect and a woman accompanying him are still at large.

Captain John Walker said in a statement:

In a situation like this, he hit his intended target, but think about how many people out here with them bullets flying.”

Thankfully, no bystanders were hit with stray bullets.

This 17th and Chestnut shooting is the latest in a particularly violent few years for Philadelphia. Many citizens have become numb to these violent incidents, often shrugging their shoulders indicating that shootings are just a day in the life of a Philadelphian.
